Each year LISD elementary students enter inventions in the LeTourneau University Invention and Design Contest for middle school through college ages.

The district's winning tradition continued in 1998 as a Hudson PEP School student won Best in Show over all other age level "inventors." In 1995, two fourth grade students won Best in Show with their bicycle beeper.

Held in conjunction with National Engineers Week, the contest honors the memory of R.G. LeTourneau, founder of LeTourneau University, and holder of over 300 patents.
