Marshall Economic Development Corporation (MEDCO)

MEDCO was established by resolution of the City of Marshall after an overwhelming vote by its citizens to support economic development through a local 1/2 cent sales tax.

MEDCO is a nonprofit corporation which was licensed by the State of Texas in 1991 under the Development Corporation Act of 1979. It operates under a 501-c-3 designation from the Internal Revenue Service.

The specific purposes of MEDCO are 1.) the promotion and assistance of industrial & manufacturing businesses in relocating to Marshall and Harrison County, Texas, and 2.) the expansion and retention of existing local businesses.

MEDCO is operated by a five (5) member board which is appointed by the City of Marshall, and has a full-time Executive Director and office. The local portion of the 1/2 cent sales tax amounts to over $1,000,000 a year. This is available locally for economic development support.

MEDCO owns and operates the Marshall Business Park, which is a 600-acre site within the City of Marshall. This site is immediately adjacent to Loop highway access and is serviced by rail, gas, water, sewer, and electricity.
