OUR COMMUNITY
The Pine Tree ISD is one of three school districts serving Longview,
a city of 75,000 in the center of northeast Texas. Longview is approximately
120 miles from Dallas and 60 miles from Shreveport, Louisiana. Longview
boasts a symphony orchestra, an opera company, ballet, community theater,
and is near numerous lakes and recreational areas.
... An organized volunteer program with a paid coordinator donated over
11,000 hours to the district last year.
... Five active PTA units and a council contribute time and talent to
the seven campuses. The PTA council has won multiple Mary Ann Leveridge
awards from Texas PTA for parent education.
... GLOBE( Greater Longview Organization of Business and Education) sponsors
the GLOBE Scholar program to recognize students who complete a challenging
curriculum. GLOBE offers incentives to both students and teachers who
achieve excellence.
... Junior Achievement sponsors business mentors on several campuses
to teach children the value of quality education.
... Adopt A School Partnership of Longview, sponsored by the Longview
Drug Task Force, matches school needs with community resources.
OUR DISTRICT
District enrollment is 4,941 in grades pre-K - 12 on seven campuses.
With the exception of the high school, which houses the top three grades,
each school serves one or two grades for the entire district. Over 40
percent of the district's teachers hold advanced degrees. The average
teacher has 13 years of experience. Pine Tree staff members have been
named Regional Teacher of the Year, University of Texas Teacher of Excellence,
Junior Achievement Teacher of the Year for Texas, and Texas ATPE Teacher
of the Year.
Curriculum offerings include Honors, Advanced Placement and Pre AP courses.
Over 36 percent of the graduating class met or exceeded requirements for
the Recommended High School Curriculum last year.

The district is completing renovations and/or additions to each campus
as part of a 17.1 million dollar bond election passed in 1993. A new Intermediate
campus for grades 3 and 4 was opened in January, 1997, as part of this
project.

The district mission is "to provide a quality educational environment
that maximizes opportunities for student success enabling them to meet
future challenges and become responsible citizens." The district

OUR PROGRESS
Academic excellence is an expectation in the PTISD and is based on a
tradition of high staff and student achievement. Progress is marked by
continued standardized test scores above state and national norms, the
effective inclusion of technology in instruction and management, and state
and national recognition of district achievement.
... Four Pine Tree campuses have been recognized by the U.S. Department
of Education as BLUE RIBBON Schools. Pine Tree High School has received
this honor twice. PTHS has twice been named one of America's Best Schools
by Redbook.
... Three campuses have received Recognized accreditation status from
TEA in the past two years, and a goal has been set to become a Recognized
District.
... Thirty one students have been recognized as National Merit Scholars
in the past four years, and 46 students have been recognized as Duke Scholars
during this same period.
... Pine Tree High School earned the state UIL Academic Championship
last year, and students consistently win honors at the district and regional
level.
... The 1997 graduating class of 263 earned $930,210 in scholarships.
The Pine Tree Independent School District is seeking a Superintendent
of Schools with an understanding of all aspects of public education in
Texas, an individual who will continue the improvement of the District's
academic programs, a leader with a deep commitment to the development
of the individual student, and an educator who places a top priority on
